I’ve always been drawn to birds, magpies and wrens especially. I am in awe of their delicate biology, their unique personalities and their bravery in a world that is so much larger and more powerful than them. In these paintings I’ve tried to display the attributes I admire most about both species while also including a human element. 

The magpie sits atop the woman’s head in ‘Watchful’ in a commanding and comforting position. The ever-watchful magpie is an attentive and caring guardian and a fierce defender.
