A little bit more from Jason: Good rain in spring softened the soil and allowed large numbers of Christmas Beetles Anoplognathus chloropyrus to burrow out of the ground. While parked under a tree, I could hear what sounded like rain on the truck's canopy. Looking up, I could see branches of a White Box Eucalyptus albens covered in hungry Christmas beetles, dropping their leaf cuttings to the ground.
