A little bit more from Jennifer | The eel trap is based on the coil weave eel traps of Kaurna, Ngarrindjerri and Gunditjmara first nations people, with their long sinous bodies and distinctive flares. The flare od traditional woven eel traps was set into branched barricades across freshwater creeks and rivulets and the eels would be caught when they swam into them because eels can’t swim backwards. This is an example of traditional sustainable use of environmental materials and engineering ingenuity. This one is hot blown glass with colours and pattern to evoke traditional weaving fibres and coils.
