The three pieces I have created for this exhibition were inspired by our beautiful Australian Flora. The inspiration comes from walks through native gardens as well as country drives through the Blue Mountains in New South Wales. My favourite part of discovering a new native is getting up close and personal, absorbing the tiny details and thinking of new ideas to portray in my work. As I create each stitch, loop, stamen, petal and leaf, I am lost in our beautiful Flora which I feel we take for granted. All three pieces have been created in a repeating Mandela pattern which reflect those that are found in nature. These repetitive patterns capture the viewer’s eye to be drawn in and around the art and within the frame. This response allows the viewer to step in my shoes in the same way that I am captivated by the smaller details when studying our flora.
Elizabeth’s work is heavily inspired by Australia’s Native Flora and Fauna. She enjoys playing with rich colours that emulate the natives through 3D embroidery techniques creating pieces that spontaneously leap out to the viewer.
