A little bit more from Vicki: These brooches were made using clay dug by Larissa Warren from local sources close to her home on Tamborine Mountain, QLD. After pinching small balls and slabs, I used various tools to press textures and patterns into the surface. The pieces were then bisqued to 980C. After bisque firing, I applied black iron oxide which I then rub back to reveal the textures. I then apply a clear gloss glaze to small details on the surface and fire to 1220C. The gold lustre dots and lines are applied using a very fine writing tool or brush, and the works are fired a third time to 780C.
