Travel stories | Sydney, Australia

Continuing my love of travel. This time a bit closer to home - Sydney, a short 3hr drive from Canberra. I needed a mini mid-winter break for a change of pace and also because its been freezing! So here’s a little wrap up of the short getaway.

Where to stay | I chose a place located in Cremorne Point just near the harbour. It was scandi style accommodation designed for 1 or a couple. It’s in a perfect location if you want harbour view walks, walking distance to ferry and a short drive/buses to nearby cafes/restaurants and boutique shops.

Where to eat | The host recommended an Italian deli and it didn’t disappoint. I caught a bus to Fourth Village Providore and chose a healthy salad to counterbalance the baked cheesecake! Both homemade and yummy!

I did meet up with a friend at a micro diner Bones in Pott’s Point. We both had ramen and a glass of wine. A very affordable night out.

At the Art Gallery of NSW in the new wing I had lunch at Mod Dining by Clayton Wells. I had a yummy special which was a healthy yellow rice veggie dish.

What to do |  Cremorne Point has plenty of Harbourside walks so make sure you take comfortable walking shoes. I did both options and lucked in with the cutest little lighthouse - Robertsons Point Lighthouse. From here I then headed around another inner harbour walk which takes you to the Mosman Rowers. I started with coffee reading my book and then later lunch with a glass of rose. A really nice way to simply soak up the blue skies, boats and lots of diners with their little pooches!

Hidden Gems | In all the time I lived in Sydney during my advertising agency ‘mad men’ days I never went to the State Library of NSW. It was only because a friend recommended a bird exhibition I chose to visit. As it was I had just missed the show but I took the opportunity to explore and wow! what a great place for reading, seeing other exhibitions and a little shop full of books of course!

My friend Kathy took me to her childhood park. I’ve never seen this part of Sydney and all I can is Wow! Bobbin Head in Ku-ring-gai National Park is the perfect getaway when you want mangroves, walks, hire or admire a boat or two and time out. There is a park entrance fee as you’ll need a car to get there. It’s worth it!

Art Gallery | I was keen to visit the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman art prizes at the Art Gallery of NSW. I’ve keenly watched the announcements (and controversies) by newspaper or on the TV for as long as I can remember. This time I booked a double pass (saving $10) to go to 4 shows including Alphonse Mucha. The first show is inside the original building while the latter is in the new wing and worth checking out even for the architecture alone.
