Greta Cooper
I have taken inspiration for this ongoing series from the Australian bush where I spend my time walking and/or birdwatching. The leaves and other plant matter I have collected from Canberra, and the birds I have chosen to illustrate, are commonly seen in my hometown on the South Coast of New South Wales. The birdlife includes: the bright blue Superb Fairy-wren, elegant Rose Robin, timid Yellow Thornbill, dashing Eastern Spinebill, bold New Holland Honeyeater and the smallest of Australia’s birds - the Weebill.
Greta Cooper is an emerging artist working with traditional media including drawing, painting and printmaking. Greta’s practice explores her curiosity with nature and connection with the environment.
Her artworks examine current environmental themes of climate change and global warming and the affects they have on the environment. Greta is inspired by her family, hometown and connection with the land where she spent her childhood years. Growing up in a small rural town in New South Wales, meant Greta’s backyard was surrounded by the Australian Bush and the ocean.
In 2021, Greta was awarded a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in Printmedia and Drawing from School of Art + Design at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. She was awarded two Emerging Artist Support Scheme (EASS) awards in the ANU 2020 Graduating Exhibition.
