Ellen Rosalie Gunner

Home is the place where we celebrate life with loved ones, who make us feel comfortable to be ourselves. It is the place where unforgettable memories are created and collected within the texture, colour and patterns of the landscape, the architecture of buildings, and the objects we fill our homes with.  

Ellen Rosalie Gunner is a designer-maker who graduated with Honours in Textiles Design from the Australian National University, School of Art and Design in 2017.

Born in Tennant Creek and living her childhood in Alice Springs, the Red Centre is where Ellen experienced a strong sense of Hygge (hoo-guh) – the quality feeling of cosiness and comfortable wellbeing. 

Reflecting upon her cherished memories of Hygge, she creates handmade collections of printed textiles and artworks that portray the time, feeling and atmosphere of when these memories were made, through the colourful and organic patterns, appealing textures and tactile embellishments.

Her works are either hand screen-printed or digitally printed from a handdrawn design, accompanied with a feature embellishment like fun foil details, luxurious velvet, playful polymer clay buttons and beads or tantalising tassels.  

Ellen moved to Australia’s Capital in 2014, and since graduating has decided to make Canberra her new home and is excited to see what new memories will emerge within her designs.
