Travel stories | Gold Coast, Australia
January / February in Australia is Summer at its best and I lucked in with sunshine every day for my stay at Palm Beach, Gold Coast. My dear friend turned 50 and we had quiet celebrations with her bubbie and partner. A few travel tips to help you plan your newest trip.
Where to stay | we stayed at 19th Avenue on the Beach. It’s located right on the beach with sweeping views looking up to Surfers Paradise or back to Coolangatta. It had a 22 metre covered pool which I loved! Also, a baby / toddler pool and family friendly barbecue area. Highly recommend for families / friends.
Where to eat | Frida Sol - my friend chose this modern Mexican eatery as it was close by if you have a car. We all agreed the food was spot on and easy to share plates between the 3 of us. While there was no air-con, a sea breeze did help.
Right near the beach and the apartment within walking distance is both: Canvas Palm Beach - spot on for lunch and in a very breezy location. Twelve91 - a local fave with homemade fare and great coffee! Most places along the coast have open air spaces.
Any of the surf clubs along the coast are pretty much standard pub fare. They are family friendly, most with air-con and very helpful staff. Queensland is known for its ‘friendliness’.
What to do | I didn’t really get to do much only because my friend had a 5 month old bubbie but we did do road trips to see sights, well known beaches and checkout high rises in Surfers Paradise. If you want a 360 degree view of the Gold Coast then head to Skypoint - one of Australia’s tallest building. It takes 38 seconds to travel to the 77th floor! While there is local bus transport, a car is pretty much needed to get around.
Hidden Gems | I’m not sure if you call this hidden but it’s an eye-opener! A very cool architectural pod house located in Tweeds Head. It’s called Tweed Terrace House and very futuristic looking. So worth the drive by and also for the sweeping beach views where NSW meets the QLD border.
Sunsets | The Gold Coast sure knows how to put on a show with sunsets. If you can get a beach view with your accommodation, I certainly recommend it for 5.20am sunrises.
