cox | jeffs | zalakos | EASS 2023
13 to 29 October | 7 days a week
At GOST, we are thrilled to host our 4th show for winners of the Emerging Artists Support Scheme (EASS). Since 2017, GOST has supported 9 artists who graduated from the ANU School of Art + Design. Adam and I are EASS patrons and through this Award, provide graduates with the opportunity to exhibit new work as part of their pathway to becoming professional practicing artists.
Ceramicist Alicia Cox, Painter Janet Jeffs and Gold + Silversmith Jonathon Zalakos are our awardees. My husband and I went to the Patron’s viewing day in December last year to view the graduate’s works. We wish to congratulate all the students who showcased their artworks and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
For this year’s EASS exhibition, Alicia says of her ceramic works, I decided to diverge from my usual work to combine my love of tea and snacks. I wanted to create a more functional art object in which the user can allow themselves to take a moment to just enjoy.
Janet says of her paintings, Sky is an exploration my embodied relationship with the natural world through gestural abstraction. In the development of the work my focus is on images read as both manifestations of energized paint and of inchoate matter within the natural world.
Jonathon says of his brooches, This is both an investigation into the maker and the made, while engaging these labels as interchangeable - we are just as much made by our environments as we tend toward making them.
