Feature artist | Keith Betts

It's a delight to announce Sydney artist and painter Keith Betts has joined the GOST stable. I first met Keith through one of my private tuitions in 2021. We had a few sessions via Zoom and found some lovely connections.

I was quite taken by Keith's paintings of people in the streets and showed him a little picture I had on my desktop computer.

I didn't know who the artist was and Keith went on the hunt. He sent me an email " ... The painting is a detail of a Herbert Badham which I think was used for the cover of a book by Tom Keneally. Interesting that you saw a connection with my streetscapes because it is of George St. It reminds me of the street photography that used to be a business in my mother’s youth ...".

I knew then instinctively, I had to ask Keith would he show some of his works in the gallery ( I was in awe of his career of more than 50 years with prominent galleries). I was thrilled he would consider it and think about what works would suit my small space. Luckily for me, he could visit in person, bring the paintings with him and a chance to meet face to face along with his wife Leonie.

This is what I love about meeting new artists - its about a human connection (whether it's in person or via Instagram) and creating relationships that go a little beyond a gallery's day to day machinations.  They could experience how I meet and greet visitors to our small space, tell them the story of its laundry beginnings and over afternoon tea (a mean homemade chocolate raspberry brownie) we could talk all things art, Sydney & Canberra connections & education.

Thanks! we raised $1000 for Arts Northern Rivers

Thanks! We raised $1000 for Arts Northern Rivers who will need the monies now more than ever given the floods continue to return as I write this. I’d like to thank all our customers who bought in person and online. Every little bit counts. Here’s to our community supporting another community where artists and art organizations matter.

Watson Microforest | Bush food tastings

We hosted a special event on 2 April 2022. The Watson Microforest organized two bush food tastings with Wiradjuri man, Adam Shipp from Yurbay.

We all enjoyed listening to Adam talk about native plants, fruits and medicines. His knowledge of how they are used and respected by First Nations was insightful. I think we are all planning what next to put in our gardens and perhaps a spot of online shopping.

The Watson Microforest project is grateful for support from ACT Government’s Cultural Grants program to offer this unique event.

She Shapes History | Walking tours in Canberra

I met Sita and Ripley last year in a zoom tourism networking session and loved their concept of introducing visitors to hidden histories and women who have shaped Canberra’s city in many ways. Last week, Sita popped in to say hello and it was so nice to meet in person. We chatted all things small business, going solo and future plans. It’s so nice to have another peer (and new friend) in the tourism community as often women tend to be sole traders and try to juggle all things while running a small business.

So, if you are looking for something nice to do or a gift voucher for a special recipient then book in now!

We are closed for Easter
For the first time in 4 and 1/2 years I'm having Easter off. I'm heading on a little 4 day getaway to celebrate a very belated 50th birthday with a dear friend.

This sweet image is by @higuma2017 who I found on Instagram. She creates little creatures from needle felting and wool.

Have a sweet break everyone, Anne xx
